Decision-Support Systems and Human-Machine Interaction

This session will offer insights on how to design and regulate for effective human-machine interaction (HMI) in the context of military decision-support systems (DSS). The use of AI-based tools aimed at supporting and facilitating military decision-making reconfigures the role and place of human judgement and human agency. The session will discuss the implications of the use of military DSS on the relationship between humans and technology. It will explore requirements for the engineering of DSS that would provide for an adequate quality and extent of HMI, and thereby allow for a continued compliance with international law.
