AI, Or Not AI? – Debunking Commonly-Held Assumptions on Military AI
Chatham House is convening an interactive panel discussion about the policy, legal and ethical implications of commonly-held assumptions surrounding military AI. This workshop presents a unique opportunity for Chatham House to promote an upstream approach to responsible AI, where scientifically grounded legal, ethical and policy considerations inform every design decision in the development of AI technologies with potential military applications.
Such a process first requires the community to re-calibrate certain commonly-held assumptions that would otherwise give rise to potentially ineffective, or even harmful decisions relating to the use and governance of these technologies. These discussions will help promote knowledge-sharing and bridge-building between all stakeholders on these AI assumptions; and ultimately foster common understanding and fruitful political deliberations.
